ICON Douglas Fir introduces grain rhythm and continuity across the vaulted ceiling
Catskill
Originally planned with Eastern White Pine, this custom timber frame home pivoted mid-build after the homeowner encountered ICON® at a relative’s project in Long Island. Drawn to ICON’s refined grain and premium appearance, he upgraded the interior spec to thermally modified Douglas Fir and Radiata Pine.

Why ICON
Durability and appearance were top of mind. ICON offered a cleaner, more elevated finish than knotty pine, without compromising on warmth. With expansive interiors, the crisp vertical grain of ICON added structure and rhythm to ceiling and trim details.
PROJECT IMPACT
ICON enabled the homeowner to achieve an aesthetic typically reserved for expensive hardwoods delivering the warmth of real wood with the enhanced performance made possible by thermal modification. In key areas, Radiata pine defines the lower living areas with tonal, cost-effective layer, further showing ICON’s range.

Design Notes
Radiata Pine was featured throughout the lower level, offering a more rustic contrast to the upstairs Douglas Fir and highlighting ICON’s versatility across styles and spaces. Builder and homeowner alike appreciated ICON’s ease of install, especially in high-ceilinged spaces.
