Keeping ICON Performing Beautifully

ICON® is built for the long haul, but like all premium wood products, it benefits from intentional care. Follow these best practices to maintain its structural integrity and visual appeal for years to come.

Routine Cleaning  and maintenance

  • Inspect ICON® installations at least twice a year, especially in high-exposure or shaded environments.
  • Gently clean surfaces with a mild soap solution and a soft-bristle brush or cloth to remove dirt, dust, or pollen.
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water—never use harsh chemicals or abrasive tools.
  • Shaded areas, such as soffits or decks with limited airflow, may require more frequent attention to prevent organic buildup like mold or mildew.

Dealing with Stains

For more persistent marks, use a wood-safe cleaner and light pressure washing—testing a small area first to confirm compatibility.

To Finish or Not to Finish

ICON® offers design flexibility with two great options:

  • Natural Weathering: Leave untreated to develop a refined silver-gray patina.
  • Color Preservation: Apply a UV-resistant exterior finish, such as:
    • Paint (with an alkyd-based primer and acrylic/latex topcoat)
    • 100% penetrating oil (recommended by Timber Trading) to maintain ICON’s original color and natural finish

Always follow finish manufacturer guidelines and reapply as needed based on exposure and wear.
