ICON Douglas Fir was selected as a straightforward, proven solution for a full exterior application. The architect sought a material that would support a contemporary aesthetic without distraction; something familiar, reliable, and capable of performing across large, uninterrupted wall planes. Our thermally modified Douglas Fir delivered the durability and dimensional stability required, while maintaining the natural look and feel of real wood.
ICON Douglas Fir supported the architectural intent by delivering a uniform cladding system across the entire exterior. Its dimensional stability allowed for precise installation over large surfaces, maintaining crisp vertical lines and tight nickel gap spacing. The result is a clean, contemporary envelope where the material enhances the architecture without competing with it.
The exterior cladding was detailed to handle scale. With large wall areas and limited breaks, the project required a product that could maintain consistency over long runs without visual drift. ICON Douglas Fir performed well in this context, allowing the installer to keep spacing tight and alignment true across the entire envelope. The nickel gap profile introduced just enough separation between boards to keep the surface from feeling flat, while still reading as a unified skin. The result is an exterior that feels intentional from every angle and holds up visually at both close range and full elevation views.
